History
Kiefer’s Furniture Home was originally Fleming Furniture Home, operated by Frank and Marie Fleming. Frank and Marie became known for quality furniture, selling such lines as Tell City and Berne. Dick Kiefer met the Flemings while selling advertising for the Shelbyville News. They became friends, and when the Flemings decided to retire, they contacted him to see if he was interested in buying the business. Dick and his wife Sharon were interested, and they bought the business in 1969. At that time, the store was located at 33 W. Broadway, and it remained there for 37 years. In 2007, Dick and Sharon made the difficult decision to sell their building to the Shelby County Library, and move the business to 520 N. Harrison, next door to the Colour Palette.
While the store has moved, and many of the name brands have changed, Dick and Sharon Kiefer still value their reputation for selling quality furniture at competitive prices. They have passed this tradition along to their son Brian, who now works with them to continue the family business.
For well over a half of a century, Fleming Furniture Home and then Kiefer’s Furniture Home has prided itself on home town sales and service. We have local employees, involved in the community, who take pride in what they do. We offer full service delivery and set up, allowing you to enjoy your purchase immediately. We also service what we sell.
